The Florida House

Alumni and Aftercare

A Continuum of Care in Your Lifelong Recovery Journey

Recovery and sustained sobriety is a lifelong process and does not – and should not – end upon completion of any addiction treatment or recovery program. For this reason, The Florida House Experience team is dedicated to providing a continuum of long-term care, support and guidance that does not end at discharge. Our graduating Alumni continue to be active members of our ‘Florida House Family,’ attending weekly meetings, participating in community events, and serving as role models to newcomers struggling with the disease of drug addiction or alcoholism.

Each individual who enters our program and successfully progresses through the stages of addiction treatment becomes a member of our Florida House Alumni – and a member of our ‘Florida House Family.’ We consider these people a testament to the quality and success our of drug rehabilitation programs. The disease of addiction has been a difficult battle, and sometimes going home can be the hardest part. Even as the individual completes his or her stay through medical detox, rehabilitation, and our sober living community, we continue to provide critical support for each individual as he or she continues life in sobriety.

Medical Detoxification

The Importance of Medical Detox

Medical detoxification is a pivotal step on the road to addiction recovery. Individuals with alcoholism or drug addiction are suffering from a disease – the body becomes physically dependent on alcohol and/or drugs and the brain becomes chemically dependent as well. The safest and most effective way to break this devastating cycle of addiction to drugs and alcohol is through a professionally and medically assisted detoxification program.

Medical detoxification, or detox, is the process of eliminating poisonous toxins from the body under medical supervision. Individuals may attempt to stop “cold turkey,” however, these attempts not only typically fail due to the dependency the body has developed for the drugs or alcohol, but can also pose dangerous health risks when done without proper medical supervision. Medical detox addresses these safety concerns and provides comfort from the common and potentially harmful withdrawal symptoms. Once detox begins, the severity of withdrawal symptoms can vary depending on the length and depth of alcohol or drug abuse and the individual’s drug history.

Upon completion of medical detox, your body will begin to be cleansed of the poisonous toxins it had become dependent upon, leaving you physically and mentally stronger and better prepared for continued addiction treatment. Remember, detox is an important first step on the road to addiction recovery. After detox, it is highly recommended that you continue your addiction treatment for alcoholism or drug addiction.

Specialized Programs

In case the medical detoxification program is not what you are looking for, we also offer the following specialized programs:

Finding the Right Medical Detox Program

Selecting the best medical detoxification program is an important decision. Your privacy, safety, comfort, and recovery are top priorities during this critical first step on the road to addiction recovery. Because every individual is unique, a medical detox that is tailored to your individual needs and supported by a highly trained medical staff will allow for the best outcome.

In your search for comprehensive addiction treatment centers, you may find that not all centers offer on-site detox programs. Further, some addiction treatment centers do not provide dual diagnosis and long term drug rehabilitation after detox is completed. It is equally important to research the medical and clinical staff at an addiction treatment center, as they will be working with you and your family from medical detox to drug and alcohol rehab, through treatment of mental health issues, and throughout your journey to sober living.

Professional Medical Detox With The Florida House Experience

The Florida House Experience is more than just an ordinary addiction treatment center. We are an all-inclusive residential addiction treatment center and sober living community. It is our philosophy to provide a complete continuum of quality long term care beginning with medical detox and extending through your journey to sobriety. Your length of stay in drug or alcohol detox will be determined on a case-by-case basis by the medical staff, and is generally dependent on age, depth of drug addiction or alcoholism, drug history, and other possible medical conditions. Detoxification is a 24-hour regimen requiring strict adherence and personal attention and your health and safety will always be our top priority. We understand that this process can be a time filled with anxiety, fear, and depression.

The dedicated and compassionate staff works around the clock during your medical detox treatment to guide you safely and effectively through detox, ensuring you are best equipped to begin the next phase of addiction treatment, rehabilitation. Once detox is behind you, The Florida House Experience team seamlessly begins to provide the specialized treatment you need to reach for sobriety.

Residential Rehabilitation

The Right Residential Rehab Treatment Program

Residential rehab is generally the next phase in addiction treatment following medical detox and is one of the most important components of drug and alcohol rehabilitation. Attending a residential rehab allows the drug addict or alcoholic to take a step back from the stresses and responsibilities of daily life to focus on his or her personal recovery in a safe, supportive and therapeutic environment.

The benefits of participating in a residential program cannot be matched by any other treatment available. There are many different residential drug rehab centers offering various types of drug rehab and treatment methods, but not all will provide comprehensive addiction treatment services or a continuum of care after discharge from rehab. A detailed understanding of the addiction treatment center’s residential rehabilitation program and treatment services is necessary to decide if the center is right for you.

Specialized Programs

In case the residential rehabilitation program is not what you are looking for, we also offer the following specialized programs:

The Florida House Experience Residential Rehabilitation Campus

When you enter residential rehab at The Florida House Experience, you will join a nurturing, supportive community of members we have come to call our ‘Florida House Family.’ Our sober living community is comprised of recovering individuals, like you, making the transition to live and lead a sober life as a natural way of life. The road to addiction recovery takes immense strength, courage, support and guidance. Residential rehabilitation at our unique addiction treatment center is a major step in the right direction.

The Florida House Experience’s residential rehab program offers comprehensive addiction treatment and long term rehabilitation services to men and women suffering from drug and alcohol addiction. We also provide specialized residential treatment for individuals suffering from the emotional and psychiatric problems that can accompany an addiction, or Dual Diagnosis. Our Women’s Program is tailored specifically to the unique challenges facing women and our Professional’s Program is geared to working professionals suffering from the disease of alcoholism or drug addiction. We strongly encourage the participation of families in our treatment programs through our Family Outreach program.

Our tropical landscaped, 3-acre sober-living alcohol and drug treatment facility is nestled less than a mile from the beautiful beaches of sunny South Florida, providing a safe and serene campus environment and a community of supportive peers.

Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program (Day/Night)

Phase One intensive residential rehab day/night treatment is designed for patients who are in need of intensive clinical services in a residential level of care. This phase of our addiction treatment process is designed to assist clients in demonstrating work-life balance in their addiction recovery. Patients are given the opportunity to build a network of healthy, sober support with their peers and the local community. Other drug rehab centers have referred patients to our residential rehabilitation program for additional intensive clinical care because they continue to lack the internal resources necessary to maintain sobriety.

Residential rehab day/night treatment at The Florida House Experience includes a minimum of 30 hours each week of therapy. Therapy ranges from psycho-educational therapy, group therapy, individual therapy, and family therapy. Each patient works with his or her primary therapist on a customized recovery plan during their continuum of care in residential rehabilitation. We challenge our patients to confront their own negative behaviors and thought patterns which trap them in the cycle of addiction, and to examine their roles in the dynamics of their own family system.

During residential rehab, you are given the opportunity to apply newly learned behaviors, patterns of thinking and other life-tools as you assume responsibility for yourself and your own recovery. This includes pursuit of vocational opportunities to help develop recovery skills. Residential rehabilitation services also include recovery support services and drug-free lifestyle management.

During rehab we will help you develop the fundamental building blocks to strengthen your core, promote self-sufficiency, and participate as a contributing member of society. These may include: budgeting skills, job search skills, food preparation and grocery shopping, exercise and healthy leisure time activities, including yoga and a state-of-the-art gym, as well as connection with the sober living community. Most importantly, The Florida House Experience places significant emphasis on the family system in our residential rehabilitation program. Our monthly group focuses on education, family of origin dynamics, generational reenactment, and family recovery.

The clinical components of our intensive residential rehabilitation at The Florida House Experience include:

  • Individual Therapy
  • Group Therapy Sessions
  • Specialty Group Therapy Sessions
  • Meditation and Spirituality Workshops
  • Recreational Therapy
  • Comprehensive Psychiatric Services
  • 12-Step Meetings

  • Yoga and Fitness Center

Partial Hospitalization

The Basics of a Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial hospitalization is an intermediate level of addiction treatment care. During partial hospitalization, patients participate in intensive therapy during the day, and may be required to participate in evening programs to support individual treatment goals. During the intensive daytime treatment, patients work with doctors, counselors, psychiatrists and other specialists. This is generally a full day, up to 8 hours, of intensive treatment and typically includes individual counseling, group counseling, and educational sessions. At night, patients may either return to their usual home or to a sober living residence at their addiction treatment center. This varies depending on the addiction treatment center’s guidelines for a partial hospitalization program.

Not all drug addiction treatment centers offer housing during partial hospitalization treatment programs. Therefore, it is imperative that all aspects of the addiction treatment process are covered by the individual, their family, and the staff at the addiction treatment center. At The Florida House Experience we provide sober living housing while patients are in the partial hospitalization phase, and all phases, of our addiction treatment programs.

Specialized Programs
In case the partial hospitalization program is not what you are looking for, we also offer the following specialized programs:

The Florida House Experience Partial Hospitalization Program

Partial Hospitalization is Phase Two of The Florida House Experience’s comprehensive addiction treatment program. Our goal during the partial hospitalization phase is to provide the recovering individual with intensive daytime treatment and on-going therapeutic intervention, supported by proper professional medical care, as well as a sober living communal environment to return to in the evening.

During partial hospitalization, we provide continued support, a safe structured environment, and ongoing clinical and medical services from our professional addiction treatment staff to assist you in following through with your commitment to addiction recovery. Continued residence on our sober living campus allows you to take the next step in your addiction recovery and begin applying newly learned behaviors and self-help techniques in the evening, while avoiding the possibilities of triggers from returning home or exposing yourself to the people, places, and habits that can cause these triggers.

Recovering individuals typically transition to partial hospitalization after graduating from our first phase of addiction treatment, residential rehabilitation. At this stage, you have successfully demonstrated your ability to exhibit and maintain an increased level of healthy functioning. Graduation into the partial hospitalization program is determined by both the Florida House Experience staff and you.

During intensive daytime treatment during partial hospitalization, you will work with doctors, counselors, psychiatrists, and other addiction specialists on your personal recovery plan. Upon completion of this treatment phase, you will have the opportunity to apply newly learned behaviors while residing on our sober living campus, and continuing to work with a primary therapist at our addiction treatment center.

The clinical aspects of our partial hospitalization program are customized to each individual, based on a comprehensive assessment of the individual’s progress and treatment planning needs. Our clinical services during partial hospitalization include:

Intensive Outpatient

The Basics of an Intensive Outpatient Program

An Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP) is generally a step-down from residential rehab and partial hospitalization to a less restricted level of care. During an intensive outpatient program, recovering individuals are granted more independence to return to work or school during the day, while continuing to maintain clinical treatment with their drug addiction treatment center. Clinical and medical addiction treatment services continue on an as-needed basis.

Most intensive outpatient programs focus on group or individual therapy. In the evening, patients may return home or to their sober living community at their drug rehab center. Not all drug rehab center offers sober living housing for individuals in an intensive outpatient program. This strategy may not be conducive to the individual’s addiction recovery process, depending on the quality of the intensive outpatient program. Therefore, it is highly recommended that the individual discuss all aspects of an intensive outpatient program with his or her drug rehab center. At The Florida House Experience we provide sober living housing while patients are in the intensive outpatient phase, and all phases, of our addiction treatment programs.

Specialized Programs

In case the intensive outpatient program is not what you are looking for, we also offer the following specialized programs:

Entering our intensive outpatient program means you have shown consistency in your addiction recovery process and promising signs of your capacity for success in a less restrictive environment.

The Florida House Experience’s intensive outpatient program is designed to prepare our recovering clients for a healthy transition into the community and society. The goal of our intensive outpatient program is for you to be able to manage day-to-day challenges and stresses without drugs or alcohol, integrate into the community, and apply learned recovery skills to real life settings. As an intensive outpatient, you have the ability to work or attend school during the day, continue therapy sessions in the evenings, and still return to our sober living housing at night. The intensive outpatient phase allows you more independence in their pursuit of long lasting sobriety as you seek employment and transition to a healthy work-life balance, while continuing to reside on our sober living campus.

Sober Living Community

The Need for a Sober Living Community

After patients successfully complete all three of our treatment program phases – residential rehabilitation, partial hospitalization, and intensive outpatient – it is recommended that they continue on the road to recovery in a sober living environment. The threat of relapse may not be immediate, however, addiction recovery is an ongoing process. It is possible that returning to daily life at home, or exposure to certain people, places, and habits, can trigger relapse.

A sober living community provides continued assurance and security in a structured, supportive, therapeutic environment. Individuals that have suffered from drug addiction and alcoholism are often intelligent, intellectual, talented individuals. Unfortunately, drug addiction and alcoholism has torn them away from the path leading a fulfilling life. After intensive addiction treatment and drug rehabilitation, it is time for the individual to apply the life skills and tools necessary to live and lead a sober life as a natural way of life. Individuals will be able to return to their families, friends, jobs, and social responsibilities.

Our sober living community provides the support and stability to continue working towards this goal. Our professional medical staff and clinical staff that has seen your progress through all levels of addiction treatment at our drug rehab center and remain dedicated to your commitment for long lasting sobriety.
